I walk my streets daily. As I walk… I lean towards what is natural to me…the femininity, the softness and warmth that the story conveys.
When we do street photography it is like we capture a part of ourselves in the scene. A representation of how we see our streets in which we live in.
That light at night is pretty and any dream is possible.
I encounter groups of after work businessmen drinking, now this doesn’t interest me. The scene is too erratic, too harsh and not my story… it is somebody else’s.
Somebody yelling who is not of sound mind crossing the street…my heart breaks for him, his pain & confusion. That is not my story either. I cannot do that person justice by invading his personal space to get a photo of the dramatic scene.
Nor is a flashing camera in people’s faces.
My story is something softer; with warmth like a friendship that has many layers. I see Melbourne streets as my good friend whom I spend time with every day and night. We know each other very well, but each day the emotions change and there is something new to discover about each other. We are content to sit and just be. Laugh…then serious sometimes… but always searching for the pretty.
How do you see your streets?
