Hello , it occurred to me today that sometimes it is difficult to find out where locals go for good coffee here in Melbourne, Australia. I was having my usual morning espresso (this time at Dukes Coffee Roasters) and bumped into somebody I know. We got talking about cafes and it surprised me that he was not aware of some of the other little gems we have in the centre of this city.

A girl who was visiting from Korea then sat on the spare chair between us at the bar and mentioned how she was trying to find some more good coffee places here as well. She had been to Starbucks on Swanston street and noticed with puzzlement there were no locals there having coffee. I explained to her about Melbournians loving smaller specialist cafes that are usually found in laneways, therefore big chain stores donโ€™t really appeal for their daily caffeine fix. I did not want to sound snobby about Starbucks as completely understand the need for it, so shhhhhhhh donโ€™t be rude and say the truth ...the coffee there is not considered good:-)

So where to go ? There are so many Melbourne suburbs that have good cafes. However my blog is boutique therefore decided to mention a few that stand out in the centre of the city and a couple in suburbs of Fitzroy /Collingwood. I believe in quality not quantity .

After all if you are visiting Melbourne, I imagine you would not have the time to be rushing out to every single suburb just for a coffee, as you probably want to do other things here as well. I also imagine you would want to enjoy your coffee in the place you have chosen instead of gulping it down and rushing to another. Coffee in my eyes is meant to be enjoyed and the cafe serving it is part of that experience . So here are some coffee places that stand out for me . I hope you enjoy xo

Patricia Coffee Brewers

Cnr Little Burke & Little William Street, Melbourne

Love this cute retro style place. (Standing room only with some crates outside to sit ) The coffee is outstanding & the service genuine friendly. The baristas truly are passionate about making good quality coffee for you.

Vacation

1 Exhibition St, Melbourne

Beautiful pastel pink decor & a light welcoming ambience. They consistently make delicious coffee for you . Excellent service & locals come back time and time again for the quality & atmosphere .

Little Rogue

12 Drewery Lane, Melbourne

A hidden quaint cool little spot that reminds me of some of the cafes I encountered in Tokyo . The coffee is well made with beans from A Coffee . They also run Bakemono Bakers on the same street if you fancy a yummy pastry . A side note off coffee ; they make the best matcha latte in Melbourne . Full stop . :-)

Dukes Coffee Roasters

247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne

Housed in a beautiful building with a pretty looking tiled floor to add. Dukes is a stable with locals & visitors alike to have a wonderful yum coffee . The service is friendly and efficient and my usual espresso is made well.

Brother Bada Budan

359 Little Burke St, Melbourne

A tiny cool little cafe that makes outstanding coffee; the baristas really know how to make a good long macchiato...which is hard to get right. If your lucky enough to find a spare seat in this popular cafe, you will find the ambience is wonderfully chilled to have your coffee & make time to look up at the quirky decor chair display hanging from the roof.

Traveller Coffee

2/14 Crossley Street , Melbourne

Around the corner from the famous Italian pasta place Pelligrinis. The ambience is boutique , friendly & all about good well made coffee . This cafe reminds me of New York mixed in with Australian friendly style service. They also have some great tunes playing why you enjoy your good quality coffee

ACoffee

30 Sackville Street , Collingwood

This cafe tops my list as everything you want out of a cafe. Stunning tasting coffee by baristas that really know how to consistently make it . Housed in brick style warehouse with the interior inside being clean beautiful looking whites & they also roast on site . The atmosphere is superb with cool jazz tunes playing not too loud, not to soft that compliments the sounds of baristas pouring the latest filter order . Love this place .

Calere Coffee

166 Gerturde Street , Fitzroy

A cute tiny place that has the most sweetest service & well made coffee. They genuinely love coffee and that shows in the taste of it and presentation in the beautiful pottery cups . Each time I have had a coffee there I feel satisfied & treasure the experience...love .
